Association between physical health status, health behaviors and subjective depression among single-person household

Abstract

|
Objectives: This study was conducted to explore the association between physical health status and health behaviors and subjective depression.
Methods: The Community Health Behavior Survey Data was used in this study. The sample consisted of 29,146 people. Data were analyzed with x 2 -test and logistic regression analysis. In this study, subjective health status, experience of illness in last 2 weeks, and bedridden state in last month were regarded as physical health status variable. Smoking, drinking, moderate physcal activity, sleeping hours, and breakfast intake were included in analysis model as health bebavior variables.
Results: 11.4% experienced subjective depressive symptom in last year. After adjusting socio-economic characteristics and social network variables, the probability of experiencing subjective depression increased in subjects who evaluated their health badly, experienced illness and bed-ridden state, smoked occasionally or daily, slept during 5 hours or less and 9 hours or more, and skipped breakfast.
Conclusions: Health behavior modification program using innovatove apporach should be developed for single-person household.
